Nuevo León Mayors Demand State Release of Hundreds of Millions in Municipal Funds
Around 20 mayors from the metropolitan and rural areas of the Mexican state of Nuevo León gathered at the state government palace to press for the immediate payment of funds the state allegedly owes to the municipalities. The officials claim the withheld amounts range between 1.2 billion and 1.7 billion pesos, covering revenues from local tax collections, traffic fines and vehicle registration fees.
The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, presented a formal request to the state executive, urging the treasury to transfer the pending participations so that local governments can finance public‑safety personnel, street maintenance and basic services. State Treasury officials have denied any outstanding debt, citing public reports and a federal audit that confirm timely transfers. No official response to the mayors’ demand had been reported at the time of writing.
