Nuevo León officials demand CFE accountability over frequent power outages
Authorities and legislators in Nuevo León are demanding accountability from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) following frequent and prolonged power outages across the state's metropolitan area.
Federal Deputy Iraís Reyes de la Torre has requested that the CFE, the Ministry of Energy, and the National Energy Commission explain the causes of these failures. She specifically asked for updates on nearly 9 billion pesos in promised federal investments intended to strengthen the state's electrical infrastructure. Data indicates that between January and July, 15,439 electrical interruptions were recorded in Nuevo León, with over 7,600 concentrated in Monterrey, Guadalupe, Apodaca, and San Nicolás.
In response to citizen complaints, the Monterrey municipal government held a working meeting with CFE executives in Mexico City. Led by Municipal Administration Secretary Marcelo Segovia Páez, the meeting aimed to present reports of recurring outages and establish better coordination between the municipality and the utility provider to address the needs of affected neighborhoods.
