Nuevo León political tension rises over executive vetoes

A political confrontation has intensified in Nuevo León between Governor Samuel García and the state legislature. Deputy Lorena de la Garza has criticized the governor for his frequent use of the veto power, noting that the current administration has issued 181 vetos in less than five years. She contrasted this with the previous three administrations, which combined for 118 vetos over an 18-year period, arguing that the veto should not become a permanent tool for institutional confrontation.

In response, Governor García has defended his administration, accusing political opponents, specifically members of the PRI, of attempting to sabotage state progress. The Governor highlighted his focus on the 2026 budget to fund metro expansions, road repairs, and investment attraction, while framing the legislative opposition as a force that seeks to hinder the state's development.
