Nuevo Mester de Juglaría named Amigo de San Frutos 2026

The Cofradía del Paso de la Hoja has unanimously named the folk group Nuevo Mester de Juglaría as the ‘Amigo de San Frutos 2026’. The recognition honors the group’s nearly 57-year career and its efforts to preserve and update Castilian popular traditions.

The award, a San Frutos figure created by ceramicist Elena Cuesta, will be presented on October 25 in Segovia’s Plaza Mayor during the festivities for the city and diocese's patron saint.

Additionally, Antonio Lucio Gil has been chosen to perform the traditional reading of the Romance de San Frutos. Artist Eloísa Sanz Aldea will lead the ‘Ilustración y Expresión del Deseo en la Hoja’ ceremony, scheduled for the midnight transition between October 24 and 25 at the Cathedral door.
