Numan Kurtulmuş addresses fund investigation and signs Portugal protocol

Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş addressed several key issues during an official visit to Portugal. Regarding the ongoing fund investigation involving stock market speculation, Kurtulmuş emphasized that those responsible for unfair gains must be held accountable, describing the matter as an issue of economic security where 'reconciliation is not possible.' He noted that no formal investigation files have reached Parliament yet and clarified that the Speaker's Office does not have the authority to lift parliamentary immunity; such requests are traditionally referred to the Joint Commission.

In Lisbon, Kurtulmuş met with Portuguese Assembly President Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco. The leaders signed a cooperation protocol between their respective parliaments to strengthen bilateral ties. Discussions also focused on increasing the current 3.7 billion dollar trade volume to a target of 5 billion dollars, particularly through cooperation in the defense industry and joint investments in Africa and Latin America. Kurtulmuş also expressed support for Portugal's stance on Turkey's EU membership process.
