Numan Kurtulmuş clarifies new law on national solidarity and PKK disarmament
Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi held a security meeting focused on strengthening national solidarity and social integration. The meeting aimed to establish strategies for social peace and review security policies to better address public needs.
This follows the passage of the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, which received 467 votes in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Kurtulmuş clarified that the law is not a general amnesty but a legal framework for the disarmament and liquidation process of the PKK. He emphasized that the legislation includes three safety mechanisms: the fulfillment of conditions for laying down arms, oversight by mechanisms established by Parliament, and adherence to a specific legal framework.
Kurtulmuş stated that the law does not alter the unitary structure of the state and represents a significant political consensus. He described the legislation as opening a new era for peace and social brotherhood in Turkey.
