Numan Kurtulmuş discusses efforts for a terror-free Turkey
Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has addressed the ongoing efforts toward a ‘Terror-Free Turkey,’ describing the initiative as a vital step for the nation's future and a common goal for its 86 million citizens.
Speaking at the opening ceremony for the 2026-2027 academic year at Selçuk University, Kurtulmuş highlighted the immense human and economic toll of terrorism over the last 50 years. He estimated the alternative costs of the conflict to exceed $2 trillion. Kurtulmuş noted that while previous political attempts to resolve the issue were often thwarted by internal and external forces, current efforts are being driven by a combination of state intelligence and the national conscience.
He emphasized that the ability of different political parties to find common ground on this issue demonstrates that democracy and dialogue can resolve even the most difficult challenges. Kurtulmuş expressed confidence that if the Parliament can resolve this issue, it will be capable of addressing any other significant national problem.
