Numan Kurtulmuş discusses peace economy and disarmament in Turkey

Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has emphasized a shift from a war economy to a peace economy during budget discussions for the TBMM Presidency's 2027 budget. Speaking at the Plan and Budget Commission, Kurtulmuş noted that the 2027 budget allocation was set at 33 billion 787 million TL.

Kurtulmuş highlighted the significance of the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, which was passed with 467 votes. He described this as a major milestone in the process of disarmament and democratic development. To ensure the success of the disarmament process, he noted that three safeguards have been established: a board led by the Vice President, identification through National Security Council (MGK) decisions, and a monitoring commission within the TBMM.

The Speaker urged that the peace process should not be sacrificed for narrow political interests, stating that the current stage represents a historic opportunity for both Turkey and the region.
