Numan Kurtulmuş outlines requirements for ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process

Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, has provided updates on the ‘Terörsüz Türkiye’ (Terror-free Turkey) process. He emphasized that the implementation of related legislation is contingent upon the formal dissolution and disarmament of the terrorist organization.

Kurtulmuş outlined three primary responsibilities for the Parliament: monitoring the application of the law through a newly to-be-established Monitoring Commission, overseeing the findings of security institutions regarding disarmament within legal boundaries, and working on necessary new legal regulations through consensus. He noted that the process is gaining momentum, citing developments in Iraq and Syria as evidence of progress toward a state where only the government holds arms.

Regarding domestic politics, Kurtulmuş addressed discussions on early elections, stating that they are not currently a priority and that the Parliament is preparing for elections at their scheduled time. He also touched upon the intensity of the recent legislative period, noting the high volume of law proposals and parliamentary decisions, and called for thorough investigations into recent capital market issues.
