Nungua Beach cleanup removes 51.5 tonnes of waste

On September 19, 2026, approximately 576 volunteers participated in a large-scale coastal cleanup at Ananse Beach in Nungua, Ghana, as part of World Cleanup Day. Organized by Mayekoo in partnership with Let's Do It Ghana, the initiative resulted in the removal of 51.5 tonnes of waste, including plastic bottles and sachet wrappers.

The event involved a wide range of participants, including community members, businesses, and environmental groups such as the Ghana Recycling Initiative by Private Enterprises (GRIPE), the American Chamber of Commerce Ghana, and the Indian High Commission to Ghana. Organizers emphasized that addressing the high volume of waste on Ghana's coastlines requires collective responsibility.
