Nuno Gouveia banned from driving after fatal crash in Birdlip

Nuno Gouveia, 32, has been handed a one-year driving ban and a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving. The charge stems from a two-vehicle collision in Birdlip in July 2024 that killed 58-year-old Michael Ramstedt.

Investigations by the Gloucestershire Constabulary's Serious Collision Investigation Team determined that Gouveia swerved onto the wrong side of the B4070 while distracted. Gouveia stated he had glanced down at his satnav to check his route, and police noted he had ended a phone call shortly before the crash. Although Gouveia initially provided conflicting accounts and claimed the victim had crossed into his lane, investigators established that Gouveia’s Nissan Qashqai was on the incorrect carriageway at the time of the impact with Mr. Ramstedt’s Kia Picanto.
