The 2026 edition of the Nuno Grande Doctoral Scholarships (BDNG) has opened applications, offering a total of 75,000 euros to support advanced training for medical researchers in Portugal. The initiative will award three individual grants of 25,000 euros each to physicians enrolled in doctoral programs within the field of Fundamental Health Sciences.
Established in 2022 by the family of Nuno Grande, the program is a collaboration between the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) at the University of Porto and the Fundação Bial. The scholarships aim to encourage young doctors to integrate scientific research and teaching with clinical practice.
Eligible candidates include Portuguese or foreign citizens with a degree or master's in Medicine who collaborate in medical education at a Portuguese medical school and are enrolled in a national doctoral program. The application period remains open until January 16, 2027. Proposals will be evaluated by a jury led by ICBAS director Henrique Cyrne Carvalho.
