Nuno Melo praises PSP professionalism during housing protests
Portuguese Minister Nuno Melo commended the Public Security Police (PSP) for their conduct during recent housing rights demonstrations. Speaking at the Parliament, Melo highlighted the professionalism and firmness shown by officers when facing tension and provocation.
Melo defended the use of restraint by security forces, stating they acted with determination only when necessary. He also criticized political opponents, suggesting that some groups seek to replace representative democracy with “popular democracy” or street-based decision-making, comparing such tendencies to the French Revolution.
