Nuno Melo to sue André Ventura and Pedro Frazão over frigate deal claims

Portugal's Minister of National Defense, Nuno Melo, has announced legal action against Chega party leader André Ventura, deputy Pedro Frazão, and the news outlet 24Horas. The Ministry of Defense alleges that the individuals lied premeditatedly and distorted facts regarding the acquisition of three frigates from the Italian manufacturer Fincantieri.

The dispute stems from a report by 24Horas stating that the exclusion of the Portuguese company NTG from the €3.9 billion deal resulted in a loss of €90 million in commissions. Following this report, André Ventura released a video calling for an investigation into the destination of millions of euros, suggesting potential corruption. Pedro Frazão also characterized the deal as a scandal involving doubts about integrity. The Ministry of Defense has rejected these claims, stating the accusations have crossed the limits of political combat and harmed the institution's reputation.
