Nuno Valente leaves Chega party to serve as independent official

Nuno Valente, the president of the Quinta do Anjo Parish Council, has announced his decision to leave the Chega party and will henceforth serve his mandate as an independent. The decision, announced on Monday, August 10, does not involve a resignation from his position; Valente intends to fulfill his elected term through 2029.

Valente cited several reasons for the break, including political and institutional incompatibilities with former municipal and district party structures, a lack of political and institutional support, and accumulated divergences that made his continued affiliation unsustainable. He noted that while new party structures attempted to resolve internal issues, existing impediments prevented successful outcomes.

Emphasizing his commitment to his constituents, Valente stated that his institutional loyalty lies with Quinta do Anjo rather than any political party. He expressed a desire to prioritize the public interest, transparency, and legality, aiming to work with all political forces and public entities regardless of their orientation.
