NUNS condemns threats against journalists reporting on Ratko Mladic

The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) has condemned a wave of threats, insults, and intimidation directed at journalists following reports regarding the death of Ratko Mladic. Mladic, the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, was convicted of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

NUNS reported that several media professionals, including journalists from the Razglas portal, Zoomer, and Nova TV, were targeted with offensive messages, misogynistic insults, and threats of physical and sexualized violence. The association noted that the intensity of the intimidation prompted at least one journalist to remove published content, which NUNS stated directly undermines freedom of expression.

The association emphasized that reporting on judicially established facts and historical crimes is a fundamental duty to the public and should not be treated as a provocation. NUNS called on government officials and institutions to condemn these threats and to stop fostering an environment where journalists are branded as traitors for presenting factual reporting.
