Nuoro and Iglesias named finalists for Italian Capital of Books 2027

Nuoro and Iglesias have been named finalists for the title of Italian Capital of Books 2027. Selected by the Ministry of Culture's jury from 31 national candidates, the two Sardinian cities represent different but complementary cultural approaches.

Iglesias submitted the project ‘Iglesias – Il libro nel Mediterraneo’, focusing on identity and historical memory, while Nuoro presented ‘Nuoro: radici di carta, visioni di futuro’, emphasizing its established literary tradition. Regional Councilor for Public Education and Cultural Heritage, Ilaria Portas, described the selection as an extraordinary signal of the richness of Sardinia's cultural heritage.

The regional government provided support and resources throughout the application process. The final decision will be made following public hearings in Rome on September 29 and 30, 2026.
