Nurcan Karakaya and infant Bedirhan Karakaya commemorated on 8th anniversary

On the eighth anniversary of the 31 July 2018 attack in Hakkâri's Yüksekova district, where PKK‑linked remote‑controlled explosives killed 25‑year‑old mother Nurcan Karakaya and her 10‑month‑old son Bedirhan Mustafa Karakaya, a memorial ceremony was held at the Şarkışla cemetery in Sivas Province.

The event was attended by Deputy Defence Minister Musa Heybet, District Governor Zekeriya Murat Şahan, Şarkışla Mayor Kasım Gültekin, the victims' relatives—including grandmother Suudiye Demir—and many citizens. A recitation of the Qur’an opened the ceremony, followed by prayers and the placing of carnations on the graves. Deputy Minister Heybet presented a Turkish flag and a copy of the Qur’an to the grandmother.

The ceremony underscored the continued remembrance of the slain mother and child and highlighted the support extended to their family by local officials and the broader community.
