Nuremberg and Krefeld lead German Smart City Index 2026 administration ranking
The Bitkom Smart City Index 2026 has been released, evaluating the digitalization status of 83 major German cities across five areas: administration, IT and communication, energy and environment, mobility, and society and education. The assessment utilized 174 parameters and 14,442 data points.
In the administration category, Nuremberg and Krefeld tied for first place, with Nuremberg achieving a maximum score of 100 points. Other notable rankings in this category include Munich at 6th place and Hanover at 7th place. In the overall index, Stuttgart leads the ranking.
Several cities utilizing the cit intelliForm low-code platform for e-government processes achieved top positions in both the administration and overall rankings. Four cities using this platform are among the top ten in the overall index.
