Nuremberg bids to host German sports ‘Finals’

Nuremberg is bidding to host the ‘Finals’, a large-scale event featuring parallel German championships across various sports disciplines. The project carries an estimated budget of approximately ten million euros, with the Free State of Bavaria expected to cover half of the costs, according to Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder and Nuremberg Mayor Marcus König.

The event aims to increase visibility for smaller sports through extensive public broadcasting coverage. While organizers suggest a potential hosting date around 2030, the city must first present a formal concept.

The proposal has met with local criticism. Members of the Die Linke party in the city council argued that the multi-million euro expenditure would be more sustainably used if invested in permanent sports infrastructure and direct support for non-profit sports clubs. In response, Mayor König defended the initiative, describing it as an ‘advertising block’ for the local economy, gastronomy, and hotel industry.
