Nuremberg hosts 72‑hour trombone marathon aiming for world record

Around 1,800 trombonists from across Bavaria will perform continuously for 72 hours in Nuremberg’s Jakobskirche, attempting to set a new world record for the longest trombone concert. Organizer Thomas Engelbrecht of the Bavarian Evangelical Trombone Choir Association explained that three groups rotate every 90 minutes with only a few seconds between pieces, repeating the sequence 48 times until Sunday morning. The event is free to the public and coincides with an open‑air festival featuring musicians on multiple city stages. Throughout the marathon, participants will record photos, videos and signatures, which will be submitted to the German Record Institute for official verification; a confirmation is expected within one to two business days after the attempt concludes with a Sunday service.
