Nuremberg implements light-reduction initiatives and updates art festival plans

Nuremberg is participating in various light-related cultural and environmental initiatives. As part of the seventh annual Earth Night on September 11, the city's public service provider, Sör, will turn off the illumination for approximately 60 monuments and over 800 spotlights. This includes landmarks such as the Kaiserburg, St. Lorenz Church, St. Sebald, the Schöner Brunnen, and the Opera House. The initiative aims to raise awareness regarding energy consumption and light pollution while encouraging citizens to experience the city in a quieter, darker state.

Additionally, preparations are underway for the 2027 Blaue Nacht festival, themed ‘Der Sonne so nah’. For the first time since 2003, the festival's large-scale projection will move from its traditional location at the Kaiserburg to a new site in the old town. Citizens will vote to decide between three prominent buildings for the projection: St. Lorenz, the Em-eukal-Haus, or St. Elisabeth. The festival is scheduled to take place on April 24, 2027, with an international art competition serving as a preview.
