Nuremberg officials urge flu vaccinations as autumn approaches

Nuremberg city officials are launching a public health campaign to encourage citizens to update their influenza vaccinations as the risk of respiratory infections increases during the autumn months. Lord Mayor Marcus König and other city leaders have personally received their vaccinations to lead by example.

The campaign aims to increase vaccination rates to reduce the burden on the healthcare system during the flu season. The city's recommendations align with the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO), which advises annual vaccinations for individuals aged 60 and over, people with certain chronic illnesses, residents of care facilities, pregnant women, and those with high occupational or personal exposure risks.

Medical guidance suggests that while September and October are ideal for vaccination, it is rarely too late to get immunized as long as the virus is still circulating in the community. It takes approximately two weeks for the immune system to develop full protection following the injection.
