Munich arson attack targets defense firms Rohde & Schwarz and Helsing

German authorities are investigating a suspected arson attack in Munich that targeted a construction site near the headquarters of defense technology companies Rohde & Schwarz and Helsing. The incident, which occurred around midnight, involved the throwing of incendiary devices, including Molotov cocktails, from a moving vehicle. While one device ignited a construction container, causing minor material damage, no injuries were reported, and Rohde & Schwarz confirmed its premises were not directly hit.

Bavarian police have arrested two Bulgarian nationals, a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, at a nearby gas station. A third Bulgarian man was also detained in a separate operation in Unterhaching, though authorities stated he is not currently considered a direct perpetrator.

Investigators are treating the incident as a potentially politically motivated attack. Officials are exploring various theories, including domestic left-wing extremism and potential hybrid warfare or sabotage linked to foreign intelligence services, specifically Russia, following recent drone-related incidents in Germany. The investigation is being handled by the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
