Nuremberg sets 2027 shopping dates while Burglengenfeld cancels event
The Nuremberg City Council has finalized the shopping schedule for 2027. The city has approved two open Sundays for the city center, scheduled for March 14 during the Ostermarkt and September 19 for the Altstadtfest and Autumn Market. Additionally, two late-night shopping events are planned for May 28, coinciding with the Bavarian Gymnastics Festival, and November 26 for the opening of the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. On these late-night dates, stores may remain open until 10 PM.
In contrast, the town of Burglengenfeld has canceled its planned Kathrein-Sonntag shopping day on November 22. Local officials cited changes to the Bavarian Shop Closing Act, which took effect in August 2025. The new law prohibits store openings on Totensonntag (Sunday of Remembrance), a day of silent commemoration, even when linked to markets or special occasions. Mayor Martin Antretter and local business representatives expressed regret over the cancellation, noting the event's importance to the local economy.
