Nuremberg University of Music President Resigns
Rainer Kotzian, the president of the Nuremberg University of Music, has resigned from his position following allegations of abuse of power and prolonged internal conflicts. His resignation became effective this past Friday.
In a letter to university members, Kotzian cited a desire to prevent further strain on the institution due to recent internal disputes. He admitted to a “mistake” regarding a personal conversation with a student in November, acknowledging that he failed to account for the inherent power imbalance between a professor and a student. While he expressed regret for the circumstances, he denied the specific allegations made by a student initiative.
Bavarian Arts Minister Markus Blume stated that while he respects the decision to step down, the allegations must be thoroughly investigated to ensure universities remain places of trust and respect.
