Deutsche Bahn delays Nuremberg‑Regensburg line, reviews corridor renovation programme

The Deutsche Bahn announced that the reopening of the 90‑kilometre Nuremberg–Regensburg corridor has been pushed back to 31 July because safety checks on the new signalling system took longer than planned. The line, which normally handles more than 350 regional, long‑distance and freight trains each day, will remain closed for the summer holidays with bus replacements and alternative routes in place. DB InfraGO’s infrastructure board member Gerd‑Dietrich Bolte stressed that safety is paramount and the company apologised for the inconvenience.

In response to this and a similar delay on the Hamburg‑Berlin corridor, DB chief Evelyn Palla and Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder said the company will put its large‑scale corridor‑renovation programme under review. The plan, which targets around 40 key routes for comprehensive overhaul by the mid‑2030s, relies on full‑line closures to carry out extensive works. The review will re‑examine how corridors are planned, executed and commissioned, aiming to improve cost control and timing while maintaining safety standards.
