Nuremberg's Klassik Open Air draws record crowds in 2026

The free Klassik Open Air concert returned to Nuremberg's Luitpoldhain on 6 August 2026, featuring the Nürnberger Symphoniker under chief conductor Jonathan Darlington. The event, part of the city's cultural summer programme, celebrated the orchestra’s 80‑year anniversary with a repertoire that blended American jazz, Latin American rhythms and classic Viennese tradition. Broadcast live by BR, the concert attracted around 135 000 spectators across three performances, making it one of Europe’s largest open‑air classical gatherings.

Organisers highlighted the festival’s family‑friendly atmosphere, with picnic blankets, fireworks and a late‑night light show. The programme included works by George Gershwin, Johann Strauss and contemporary Uruguayan composer Efraín Oscher, underscoring the event’s international musical scope.
