Nurhan Ağartan prepares ‘Genlerin İzleri’ exhibition
Turkish painter Nurhan Ağartan is preparing for her third personal exhibition, titled ‘Genlerin İzleri’ (Traces of Genes). The project seeks to bridge the gap between the past and present by using art to visualize genetic memory and the emotional traces inherited from ancestors.
Ağartan’s artistic journey began in Kütahya, influenced by the works of her father, painter Ömer Ağartan. She received three years of technical training in oil painting, charcoal, and watercolor under master painter Ahmet Yakupoğlu starting at age 16. She later pursued academic studies at Anadolu University’s Faculty of Fine Arts.
Her work has evolved from direct observation and landscape painting toward a more abstract and emotional style. She describes her approach as conveying what is felt rather than merely what is seen, focusing on the layers of light, life, and emotion within her subjects.
