Nuri rocket successfully completes fifth launch in South Korea

South Korea's Nuri rocket successfully completed its fifth launch from the Naro Space Center, marking a significant milestone in the nation's space capabilities. The mission, which launched at its scheduled time of 12:25 PM, successfully deployed five NEONSAT microsatellites into their target orbit of approximately 570km. These satellites are designed for Earth observation, including disaster response and national security.

In addition to the primary NEONSAT constellation, the rocket carried ten CubeSats. While nine of these were successfully deployed, one CubeSat developed by Quaternion failed to eject despite a normal signal being sent. The successful mission has increased Nuri's cumulative launch success rate to 80%.

The launch also highlighted the growing role of the private sector in South Korea's space industry. Hanwha Aerospace, which oversees rocket production, expanded its involvement to include launch control and operations. This shift is part of a broader government strategy to transition from state-led development to a private-sector-driven commercial launch service model. The Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA) plans to conduct the sixth Nuri launch in the second half of next year, with a long-term goal of conducting at least one launch annually through 2032.
