Nurse House warns of healthcare crisis as Iranian nurses resign

The Secretary-General of Nurse House, Mohammad Sharifi Moghaddam, has warned of a growing crisis in Iran's healthcare sector as nurses resign due to low wages and heavy workloads. He reported that approximately 70,000 nurses are currently unemployed or staying at home, while many active professionals are leaving the field entirely.

According to the official, average monthly salaries for nurses range between 25 and 28 million tomans, which equates to roughly 100 USD. This low income, combined with long shifts and unfulfilled government promises regarding benefits, has made staying in the profession economically unviable for many. Moghaddam noted that for many, staying home is more cost-effective than the physical and mental toll of working for such low pay.

The shortage of nursing staff poses a significant threat to public health security, with potential consequences ranging from decreased quality of hospital services to increased mortality rates.
