Nurse Michaela Gorná recounts near-death COVID-19 experience

Nurse Michaela Gorná, who served on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic, shares her personal experience of fighting for her life after contracting the virus in December 2020. The account, featured in the audio documentary ‘Druhá šance’ (Second Chance), details her time in the hospital while connected to life-support machines and experiencing deep unconsciousness.

Produced as a final project for the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University, the documentary explores Gorná’s transition from a healthcare provider to a patient. She describes the sensation of monitoring her own vital signs as they weakened and reflects on the psychological impact of facing death and how the experience has shaped her perspective on life.
