Nurse saves man after collapse on Seoul subway
Seo Hye-won, a nurse at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, saved a man in his 60s after he collapsed on Seoul Subway Line 7 during his evening commute.
While traveling near Gunja Station on October 1, Seo witnessed a passenger lose consciousness and experience seizures. She immediately requested bystanders to call emergency services and performed life-saving measures, including securing the patient's airway and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when he entered cardiac arrest.
By the time the train reached Junggok Station and emergency responders arrived, the patient had regained consciousness. Seo, a 15-year veteran of the hospital, credited her ability to act calmly to the regular CPR training provided by her institution. The incident was brought to public attention after a Seoul Metro employee reported her professional and decisive actions to the hospital.
