Nursing experience programs held for students in Japan

Educational institutions and hospitals in Japan are conducting various nursing experience programs to encourage interest in medical careers among students and adults.

Aomori Prefectural Central Hospital recently hosted 20 high school students for a one-day nursing experience. The program included orientations, observations of doctor helicopters, and practical activities such as oral care, foot baths, and diaper changing to help students understand the realities of the profession.

In Saitama Prefecture, nursing and practical nursing schools are offering free workshops titled ‘Nurse Job Experience Class’ for elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as ‘Next Career Nursing Experience Seminars’ for working adults. These sessions include hands-on activities like blood pressure and pulse measurement, listening to respiratory sounds using simulators, and practicing holding baby dolls.
