Piedmont healthcare unions withdraw from regional negotiations

Healthcare unions NurSind and Nursing Up have formally withdrawn from negotiations with the Piedmont Region, citing a lack of progress regarding staff hiring, welfare, and working conditions. The unions have scheduled a press conference in Turin for October 15 to outline their reasons and discuss potential protest actions if the regional government does not provide concrete commitments.

The unions are demanding an immediate unblocking of staff turnover, a definitive date for the conclusion of personnel reviews to resume hiring, the implementation of welfare policies, and an agreement regarding the 118 emergency service system. Union representatives stated that nurses are currently bearing the burden of systemic inefficiencies without adequate support or recognition.

In contrast, regional officials, including President Alberto Cirio and Health Councilor Federico Riboldi, have previously indicated progress through agreements with other unions such as Cisl and Fials. The Region has stated that a review of personnel needs will be completed by October 20 and has reiterated guarantees regarding staff turnover and the development of integrative welfare initiatives to improve work-life balance.
