Nursing workforce study reveals high attrition intentions

A study by the Global Nursing Workforce Centre, a joint initiative of the International Council of Nurses and TruMerit, highlights critical factors influencing the nursing profession. Key drivers for both entering and remaining in the field include working conditions, compensation, professional recognition, career opportunities, and the ability to provide quality care.

A meta-analysis of over 3.3 million nurses indicates that 38.4% intend to leave their current positions, though actual turnover is reported at 15.2%. The intention to leave is significantly higher among night-shift workers, reaching 61.7%, compared to 18.7% for those on day shifts. In Italy, specific studies suggest that up to 46.6% of nurses are considering leaving the profession.
