Gaza ceasefire violations continue amid efforts to recover remains from rubble
Israeli military operations continue across the Gaza Strip despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10, 2025. Recent strikes in areas such as Khan Younis, Gaza City, and Deir al-Balah have resulted in numerous casualties, including children. According to Gaza health authorities, since the ceasefire began, 1,344 Palestinians have died and 4,464 have been injured.
In the Nuseyrat Refugee Camp, Gaza Civil Defense teams have launched a recovery operation at the site of the Engineers Tower, a six-story residential building destroyed in an attack on October 31, 2023. Officials estimate that approximately 150 bodies or remains are still trapped beneath the rubble. The operation is severely hampered by a lack of heavy machinery, with teams currently utilizing only a single piece of equipment. Nuseyrat Mayor Nabil Al-Salhi noted that while approximately 300 people died in the original attack, many remains have yet to be recovered.
In the Zeytun neighborhood, the Gaza Civil Defense successfully recovered the remains of 100 Palestinians from destroyed buildings as part of a specialized recovery project. Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal warned that many remains across Gaza, estimated at 8,000 bodies, may only be recovered as bone fragments due to the significant time elapsed since the destruction of many residential areas.
