Nutrien Q2 profit falls short of estimates as sales volumes dip
Canadian fertilizer giant Nutrien reported second‑quarter adjusted earnings of $2.61 per share, missing analysts' estimate of $2.71. Net sales rose 4% to $10.81 billion, driven by higher potash, nitrogen and phosphate prices, but lower shipment volumes offset the price gains. Potash sales volume slipped 1.2% to 3.943 million tonnes and nitrogen sales fell 25.3% to 2.253 million tonnes. The company raised the lower end of its annual potash sales forecast to 14.2 million tonnes while keeping the upper end at 14.8 million tonnes. Nutrien said global nitrogen markets will stay tight through the second half of 2026 due to trade disruptions, production outages, elevated energy costs and strong import demand from India and Brazil. Shares of the U.S.-listed stock fell about 1% after the bell. CEO Ken Seitz highlighted record potash volumes and strong margins in the first half of 2026 despite the challenging market environment.
