Nutrition and dietary habits for heart health and anti-aging

Nutritional choices play a critical role in maintaining heart health and slowing the aging process. Specific fruit and vegetable juices can support cardiovascular function. For instance, beetroot juice contains nitrates that may help lower blood pressure and improve blood flow, though individuals prone to kidney stones should consume it in moderation. Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and kale, provide vitamins and antioxidants that reduce inflammation and improve circulation, but those on blood thinners should consult a doctor due to high Vitamin K content. Additionally, pomegranate juice offers polyphenols that combat oxidative stress, while citrus juices provide fiber and Vitamin C to help manage cholesterol levels.

To combat age-related muscle and bone loss, protein intake is essential. Between the ages of 30 and 80, muscle mass can decrease significantly without proper nutrition and exercise. While adults under 65 require approximately 0.8g of protein per kilogram of body weight, those over 65 need roughly 1g per kilogram to maintain strength and bodily functions. Protein can be sourced from animal products like dairy, meat, fish, and eggs, or from plant-based sources including legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds.
