Nutrition and dietary habits impact physical training and brain health

Nutritional experts highlight the importance of diet composition for physical training and cognitive health. For those engaging in regular exercise, the National Center for Nutrition Education suggests that carbohydrate needs increase with training intensity, potentially requiring 5-7g per kilogram of body mass for intense daily activity. Protein intake is also critical for muscle recovery, with recommendations ranging from 1.2-1.7g/kg for endurance or strength athletes, while the International Society of Sports Nutrition suggests a range of 1.4-2g/kg for healthy active individuals.

Regarding cognitive function, neurologists recommend oatmeal as a breakfast option due to its complex carbohydrates, which provide stable energy levels. Adding berries can enhance these benefits; Dr. Marwan Sabbagh from the Cleveland Clinic notes that the flavonoids in berries act as antioxidants that protect cells from damage. Incorporating walnuts can further support the nervous system through omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols.
