Nutrition and exercise identified as key for multiple myeloma self-care

Nutrition and physical exercise are identified as essential pillars for the self-care of patients with multiple myeloma. Teresa Regueiro, president of the Spanish Multiple Myeloma Patient Community, has called for more rigorous and specific scientific information regarding these two factors to help patients tolerate treatments better and improve their quality of life.

In Spain, multiple myeloma is the second most frequent blood cancer, with an estimated 3,600 new diagnoses expected by 2026. Medical experts note that malnutrition affects nearly 48% of cancer patients, which can compromise treatment approaches. Furthermore, the American Society of Hematology indicates that exercise can help reduce pain, insomnia, and fatigue.

To mark World Multiple Myeloma Day, Pfizer has released a series of videos providing advice on nutrition and physical activity endorsed by healthcare professionals. Hematologists emphasize the importance of guiding patients toward reliable sources to combat misinformation and dangerous myths surrounding the disease.
