Nutrition and food storage tips for health and vitamin retention

Proper food storage and dietary habits are essential for maintaining nutritional value and managing weight. Incorrect refrigerator organization can lead to significant vitamin loss, particularly Vitamin C, due to improper humidity and temperature levels.

To preserve freshness, leafy greens like spinach and parsley should be kept in high-humidity vegetable compartments. Additionally, certain fruits such as apples and pears release ethylene gas during ripening, which can cause nearby vegetables to spoil faster; therefore, they should be stored separately. Some items, including tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and garlic, do not necessarily require refrigeration and may lose flavor or texture if kept in cold environments.

Regarding weight management, common dietary errors can hinder progress even when eating healthy foods. High-calorie items like nuts, avocado, and olive oil must be consumed in controlled portions. Other factors include overlooking liquid calories from sugary drinks, skipping meals which may lead to overeating later, and miscalculating portion sizes involving oils and sauces.
