Nutrition and formula milk guidance for breastfeeding mothers

Guidance for breastfeeding mothers focuses on nutritional needs and the introduction of formula milk. Experts suggest that breastfeeding mothers do not need to follow restrictive diets or eat for two, but should instead focus on a diverse, rational, and regular diet. To support milk production, a mother may require an additional 300 to 700 kcal per day, with an emphasis on whole grains, vegetables, and nutrient-dense foods to maintain energy levels and health.

Regarding infant nutrition, formula milk can be introduced after the sixth month of life, particularly if a mother faces lactation challenges or chooses to transition to bottle feeding. Certain formulas with higher fat content may help infants sleep longer between feedings. It is recommended that the introduction of formula be a gradual process and that parents consult with a pediatrician or lactation consultant to ensure the infant's needs are met.
