Nutrition expert provides guidance on school lunch preparation
Dr. Öğr. Üyesi İlayda Altuncevahir, a specialist from Bahçeşehir University's Nutrition and Dietetics Department, has provided guidance on preparing healthy school lunch boxes for children.
Altuncevahir emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. She advises parents to avoid frequent consumption of pastries like poğaça and börek, which can negatively impact long-term health, and instead opt for homemade products containing protein sources such as eggs and cheese.
Regarding food safety, Altuncevahir warns that lunch boxes prepared the night before must be stored correctly. Foods requiring a cold chain, such as sandwiches containing cheese, eggs, or vegetables, should be kept in a refrigerator until the next day. She suggests using insulated lunch boxes to maintain food safety until lunchtime.
