Nutrition experts advise balanced breakfast options beyond oatmeal

Dietitians say a heart‑healthy breakfast does not require oatmeal; any meal that combines fiber, protein and healthy fats can support cardiovascular health. Suggested alternatives include whole‑grain toast with eggs and vegetables, Greek yogurt topped with berries and nuts, avocado spread on whole‑grain bread, and low‑fat cottage cheese with fresh veggies. They stress the importance of varied fiber sources, limiting sugary pastries and processed foods, and pairing the meal with regular exercise and weight management.

Separately, health specialists discuss the timing of coffee consumption. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach may speed caffeine absorption but can raise blood‑sugar spikes and irritate the digestive tract, especially for people with IBS or hypertension. Consuming coffee after a balanced breakfast can moderate these effects, aid digestion, and still provide antioxidant benefits. Experts recommend no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day (about two to three large cups) and advise limiting added sugars and high‑fat dairy additives.
