Nutrition experts warn of hidden sugar in green juices

Nutrition experts are warning consumers about the ‘health halo’ effect associated with green juices. This phenomenon occurs when a single attractive characteristic, such as being green, organic, or natural, leads people to assume a product is entirely healthy.

Dietitians note that while these juices can contain valuable nutrients, their benefits are often overstated. A significant concern is the high sugar content; some commercial products may contain between 25 and 50 grams of sugar per serving, which is comparable to or even higher than some soft drinks. This sugar often comes from fruit juices, concentrates, or added sweeteners.

Experts suggest that consumers should carefully check portion sizes, sugar levels, and fiber content. They also warn that these drinks may lack essential nutrients like protein and fiber, which can lead to energy crashes if used as meal replacements.
