Nutrition guidelines recommend daily fruit and vegetable intake
Italian nutritional guidelines, prepared by the Food and Nutrition Research Center (CREA), recommend consuming at least five portions of fruit and vegetables daily. This includes two portions of vegetables during lunch and dinner, and three portions of fruit distributed over approximately 12 hours.
Regarding the timing of fruit consumption, research suggests there is no single “perfect” time to eat fruit to avoid weight gain or manage blood sugar. While some studies indicate minor differences in glycemic response depending on when a meal is eaten, these effects are relatively small. Total daily carbohydrate intake, fiber presence, and physical activity levels are more significant factors for health than the specific hour of consumption.
Nutritionists suggest pairing different apple varieties with various food groups to optimize satiety and energy balance. For example, pairing Fuji or Gala apples with complex carbohydrates like porridge can increase satiety, while varieties like Granny Smith can be paired with lipids, such as nuts or cheese, to balance energy density.
