Nutritional alternatives to avocado for healthy fat intake
While avocado is a widely recognized symbol of healthy eating, several other foods provide higher concentrations of healthy fats. Nutritionists suggest diversifying dietary fat intake to improve heart health and cognitive function.
Key alternatives include:
• Chia seeds: These contain approximately 31 grams of fat per 100 grams, significantly higher than avocado's 15 grams. They are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid.
• Walnuts: A 28-gram serving provides about 18 grams of fat, including 15.5 grams of unsaturated fats. They are noted for their high quality of fats and ALA content.
• Olive oil: Extra virgin olive oil offers a high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, specifically oleic acid, which acts as an antioxidant and supports cardiovascular health.
Experts emphasize that replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats can help lower LDL cholesterol and assist in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. However, because fats contain nine calories per gram, portion control remains essential.
