Nutritional and storage advice for legumes and pet food

Recent guidance highlights the practical uses and nutritional aspects of canned legumes. While often perceived as inferior to dried versions, canned beans maintain similar fiber and protein levels. The primary drawback is sodium content in the canning liquid; however, rinsing the contents under running water can significantly reduce salt intake. Canned legumes are recommended for quick meals like salads, soups, or sautés, though dried beans remain superior for long-cooking dishes like stews where texture is critical.

Regarding pet care, experts advise against transferring opened dog food directly into transparent containers. The original packaging is designed to protect the food and contains essential batch and expiration data. To prevent spoilage from heat, moisture, or old residue, it is recommended to fold the original bag tightly or place the entire bag inside an airtight container. This practice helps maintain food quality and prevents the accumulation of fats and crumbs that can alter the food's odor.
