Nutritional benefits and dietary timing of fruit consumption
Nutritional experts and cardiologists have highlighted the specific benefits of various fruits for immune health, digestion, and sleep quality.
Mandarin oranges are noted for their high vitamin C content, which supports the immune system and collagen production for skin health. They also contain beta-cryptoxanthin, which can convert to vitamin A, as well as potassium, B vitamins, and dietary fiber like pectin to aid digestion and regulate sugar absorption.
Regarding evening consumption, cardiologist Aurelio Rojas recommends fruits with a low glycemic index to avoid blood sugar spikes that might disrupt sleep. Recommended options include kiwi, due to its serotonin-producing properties and vitamin C; blueberries, for their anti-inflammatory polyphenols; and apples, which provide pectin for satiety. Conversely, fruits high in sugar, such as bananas, grapes, mangoes, and pineapples, may trigger insulin secretion and lead to interrupted sleep.
